Dioscorea elephantipes is surely the most famous caudex plant in the world! Easily recognizable thanks to its turtle shell-shaped caudex, it is found in the southwest of South Africa, reaching as far as the tip of the cape.
With a diameter of well over a meter, its caudex is impressive. It is from the top of this that bushy vines with leaves shaped like small hearts will grow. Resting in summer it will wake up at the end of August when we will gradually start watering again.
Its caudex is edible.
Caudex 14-15 cm in diameter.
